Hi again. Todd here,
Hope you guys are enjoying my website. Don’t forget to check out my previous posts about how I got started searching for high quality cradle plans. My goal is to help you guys out and save you a lot of time and trial and error.
In this post, I want to go more into the actual woodworking cradle plans I used to make my baby girl’s rocking cradle. What I liked, what I didn’t and so forth.
Quick recap…..My wife remembered the old wooden rocking cradle her grandfather built for her and her siblings and how much she wanted the same for her own children. Being the DIY woodworker, I agreed and went on a search for a set of cradle plans to build our soon to arrive baby daughter her very own cradle.
I tried a couple of the generic free cradle plans and they did not turn out so well. Actually, there weren’t so great at all. The plan I thought was the best resulted in a rickety and unstable cradle. My little girl was not going to sleep in that.
Ended up, the guy at the hardware store told me about some great high quality woodworking plans he used to make a toy chest. He said they weren’t free but at this point I didn’t care. I just wanted a good reliable set of high quality cradle plans, period! Even though he didn’t use them to build a cradle, he said the best part was the site had thousands of great woodworking project plans and I couldn’t go wrong.
Man, was he right! Not only did the site just have the plans I needed it had the thousands of plans he told me about. Over 14,000 wood working plans to be exact. Not only could I build a cradle, I could make anything I wanted. After my wife got wind of it, she was like…”Great, you can get furniture plans make all our furniture and a nice gazebo for outside.” I was like, big mistake!
But, I was set for good. My own personal woodworking plan library all in one place.
I found some nice really cradle plans to choose from and after my wife and I talked about which design was better. I set off to hopefully build our baby’s cradle for the last time.
But, I’m sure you are wondering what exactly made me choose these wooden cradle plans? Here are the pros and cons of my decision:
PROS:
- I had more than 1 option for cradle designs all from one place
- The cradle plans were very detailed. Step-by-Step instruction which a novice like me needs
- Extremely detailed diagrams that were labeled and matched back to the materials list
- Plans gave me the type of wood and exact tools I would need.
- Extensive library of over 14,000 woodworking plans!
- Plans were the highest quality but not just designed for professionals. Were easy for beginners like me.
- Lots of extras came with the site: Woodworking tips, woodworking videos, list of DIY projects, woodworking guides, etc
- Instant access to plans at anytime plus a 60 day money back guarantee if I didn’t like the library
CONS:
- Steep Price Tag!. A bit more than I wanted to pay. But the whole library package was on sale at 1/2 off for $49. That translates to less than .01 per plan. I think it’s still on sale if you want to go see if it is. I knew I wouldn’t see a woodworking library like this for that price again.
- I did find some of the other plans were a bit hard to read but soon learned that was the exception and not the rule. The cradle plans were absolutely perfect!

I have to thank that guy at the hardware store again for recommending such a great site. Can’t thank him enough.
So, I take my new set of cradle plans out back to the shed to build the cradle we liked. The plans were enough so that I could customize our cradle to our liking. I ended up making an antique looking rocking cradle. And, I made sure it was wide enough for our baby to fit. KEEP THAT IN MIND!!
I was able to finish it up in one weekend and the cradle was fit, tight and durable. My wife was so happy at the end result and we hope it becomes an heirloom just like the cradle my wife used.
Check out these pictures! And how do you like the nice etching my wife did? We love it!

Hi I am Todd MacFarland and this is my beautiful baby daughter, Anna. Anna would like for her Daddy to share his experiences about his search for the right cradle plans that he built her cradle from. She loves her cradle and sleeps like a charm!
